Flower power

This is a beautiful flower from our patio garden last year. I can't remember what its called, but it made me so very happy.

It's Friday, it's Friday!

Friday is my favorite day of the week. It holds so much promise, so much hope. What will I do with my weekend? Or rather, what won't I do? What I mean by that is sometimes I love just doing N O T H I N G. Laying on the couch all day and alternately reading and napping, in no particular order. What usually rouses me is my dog, giving me "the look". When are we going to the dog park? WHEN? I swear, he can talk.

My morning view...

I'm lucky. I get to take a ferry to and from work every day. It's only a 12 minute trip, but you really can't beat that commute! And the view! City in the morning, snow capped mountains in the afternoon. I have a bag that Henry rides in, and he's really good most of the time, but every now and then he gets annoyed, and blows my cover... Dogs are allowed, so long as they're in a propor carrier, but I like to keep it on the down low...

Yes...

I occasionally dress my dog up. Never in goofy dog clothes. Only the very best for my mutt. Calvin Klein no less! Have I already posted one of these photos on this blog? I need some new material, I think. Anyways, here he is, looking like he's ready to go out on the town!

It's Sunday

and I'm trying to figure out what to do today! W is at the boat show, and I have a gloriously drizzly day to myself! I'm going between going to Ruby Dog's to shop for art supplies, or going to Lynn Headwaters for a walk with Henry... maybe I'll wait an hour and see if the rain gets worse...

The Bridges of New Hampshire

OK, so its not as romantic sounding as the Bridges of Madison County (I'm sorry, but Clint Eastwood is HOT for an old guy!)My aunt lives in Franconia, NH, and I've visited her there a couple of times. It's so beautiful and peaceful, yet they have the strangest state slogan... "Live free or die". Alrighty then!

Keane!

Went and saw Keane play last night. It was a really great show. They sounded amazing, everyone was singing along... you could feel the love in the room. The crowd loved the band, the band was loving the audience... it was their last night of touring, and they were really giving it their all.
Best show I've seen in years! (And the last one I saw was Coldplay... Keane... 100% better!)

Henry's new sweater

I went out for a walk yesterday, and came home with a new sweater for Henny boy. It was a cold sunny day, and he really needed something to keep warm, and it was on sale! One problem... mats... its a wool sweater, and it fits really well, but its quite loose, so it creates the worst armpit mats you've ever seen. Oh well, you have to suffer for style, right?

I Heart NY

I miss it! I haven't been since last January, and I really, really miss it! Warren came twice in the 5 years that we were going, and we made the most of our couple of free days. Shopping, Circle Line tour, walking, walking everywhere! We saw Urinetown the first time around, and Glengarry Glenross the second time. That had Alan Alda, Liev Shriever, Jeffrey Tambor (from Arrested Development) and that other guy from the Dukes of Hazard, (Tom Wopat?)Being a Mamet play, it was a tad wordy... A few years ago, J and I saw The Dinner Party, starring my 2 childhood crushes.... John Ritter and Henry Winkler... that was heaven!

Visualize it...

These buildings stand about two blocks away from my apartment, waiting for development. They are the Versatile Shipyards skeletons, and one day they'll be the new part of the Lonsdale Quay Public Market. Can't you just imagine stores and restaurants in this open courtyard shot? I'm really enjoying the buildings in this state though, they have so much soul. I really hope the developers don't screw them up...

Henry's visit's

This is Henry at Capilano Care Home, where we volunteered for a few months. It was a really great experience, but I'm afarid he didn't take to it quite the way I would have liked. He was always trying to jump off laps, and wasn't very patient about sitting with people and letting them pet him. Basically it just stressed him out. Its a shame, because these people just LOVED him!

Me, my Mother in Law, and her furry grandchild...

Yes, it is true. Henry is her one and only, and she treats him as such. We were waiting to get on the bus, Henry just gets stuffed into the bag, happy as can be.

New Years Resolutions

I don't normally make strict resolutions, but this year I'm going to make a pointed effort to just BE. BE happy with myself, BE grateful for the things I have, and the people (and furry beings) I have in my life. I really do think that being happy is a choice. The power of positive thinking. That and taking vitamins... my other new years res...

No, this wasn't taken this year...

as we have not seen much of the sun this winter. Another wind storm last night, another forecast for tonight... Someone's white plastic lawn chair flew off their balcony and shattered (into many small bits) against the building... oh yeah, and it snowed again yesterday. UM, don't we pay the big bucks to NOT live in the snow????

Michele, these are for you!

Heaven, I'm in heaven...

I just saw The Green Mile the other night. I really liked it, despite my disdain for so-called faith healers.

The true meaning of Christmas

W and I helped out my sister's friends' family on Christmas Eve give out cookies to the homeless on the Vancouver East Side. She had decided to show her kids that there are always people worse off than yourself, and I think they saw that in no uncertain terms. The kids were so excited. They were running up to everyone (no matter how scary they looked!) and wishing them a Merry Christmas, and handing them a bag. The people seemed so genuinely touched and maybe felt just a little better for a brief moment. Vancouver is a city that has both the wealthiest, and the poorest postal codes in the country. We happened to grow up in the wealthiest (back before it was as wealthy as it is now!) and the poorest is situated on the downtown eastside, Main and Hastings being the worst area. It was pouring rain that day, but we managed to give out about 130 bags in 1/2 an hour. Without a doubt I'll do it again next year.
